Recording your observations

CamelScan can be used to map and record information on:
  • Sightings - Where feral camels have been seen.
  • Damage - Where feral camel damage has occurred.
  • Control - Where feral camels have been controlled.

The more information entered into CamelScan the more useful the map will become.

Step 1 Register your details

Register your details to join the CamelScan or simply record information with a valid email address. You do not need to register but it will make it easier for you to view your own data, and enable the FeralScan team to keep you informed about how your data is helping to control feral camels in your local area.

Step 2 Map your observations

Record wherever you see feral camels, their impacts or control activities. To enter data, zoom to your current location and place a marker on the map, then insert the details of your observation in the form provided. Mobile phone users can also enter data while in the field.

Step 3 Submit your record

Submit your record and view the details in the All Sightings or My Data tabs. View other observations in your local area entered by other community members. You can also upload your photos to the Photo Gallery and they will display on the CamelScan website.

Thank you, your record has been submitted.

Uploading many records

If you have a large number of camel sightings you would like to import into CamelScan, you can enter these sightings into the Microsoft Excel file below and send that file to the FeralScan Team to upload into CamelScan on your behalf.

Step 2. Add your sighting data, and save the file to your hard drive.
Step 3. E-mail the file to feralscan@feralscan.org.au.

* Please note - Sighting and damage data you enter will be visible to the general public. However, information you choose to enter on any control activities will only be visible for you to see (when you log-in) and our internal website administrators. Compiled information on control (but not individual reports) may be made available to land management agencies to assist with the management of feral camels.
