Case studies - coming soon

Here are examples of community members working together to control India Myna Birds.

Wollongong community controlling myna's

Indian myna birds are highly aggressive and displace native species for nesting hollows. They cause damage to fruit and grain crops and have the ability to spread disease. This species is widespread down the east coast of Australia, including the Wollongong region, where David Burgain has been working with his neighbours to trap pest myna birds for the past 4 years. They use traps that David has built himself, as well as traps made by the local Corrimal Men's Shed. David uses MynaScan to record when he captures animals and how many are caught. Information recorded into MynaScan is automatically sent to local biosecurity officers from the Wollongong region to keep them in the loop about myna bird activity and local control efforts.
